Sudoku Mania Privacy Policy
Last updated: 16 October 2026
Sudoku Mania ("the app") is a Sudoku game for Android. This policy explains what the app does with your information.
Data stored on your device
The app saves the following on your device only:
- your current game and best times;
- your daily challenge streak and the last day you solved it;
- your settings (theme, board colors, sound, haptics and similar choices);
- whether you have seen the tutorial;
- whether you own the "Remove ads" purchase, so ads stay off when you are offline.
If you use Android's backup feature, Android may back this data up to your Google account under your own backup settings. We cannot access it.
Camera and photos
If you choose to scan a puzzle, the app asks for permission to use the camera. The picture is used only to read the digits of a Sudoku puzzle. The reading is done on your device using Google ML Kit text recognition, and the picture is not saved by the app or uploaded by us. The document scanner screen is provided by Google Play services and is subject to Google's privacy policy.
Sharing
If you tap "Share current puzzle", the app creates a text code and hands it to the sharing app you choose. Nothing is sent unless you pick an app and send it.
Advertising
The free version shows ads: a banner on the game screen, an occasional full-screen ad between puzzles, and optional rewarded videos you can watch for an extra hint. These ads are served by Google AdMob.
AdMob may collect and use your device's advertising ID, IP address, and general device and usage information to show and measure ads, including personalized ads where you consent. We do not receive this information.
Purchases
The optional "Remove ads" purchase is handled entirely by Google Play. We never see your payment details. The app only checks with Google Play whether you own the purchase.
Notifications
When you first open the app, it asks whether it may send notifications (on Android 13 and later this is the system permission prompt). Nothing is set up until you say yes. If you do, the app registers with Firebase Cloud Messaging, which creates a push token and uses Firebase's app-instance identifier to deliver reminders such as the daily puzzle or your streak. To pick who gets which reminder, the app also shares a few coarse Analytics properties (a streak range such as "2-6", whether a game is unfinished, and whether notifications are on), but only where analytics is allowed as described below. You can change your mind at any time in your device's notification settings for the app; the push token is deleted the next time the app opens. Notifications are never set up for players Google Play reports as under 16.
Analytics
To find and fix crashes and see which features are used, the app uses Google's Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics. They are used only if all of the following are true:
- Google Play does not report that you are under 16 (see "Children" below);
- where the law requires it (for example the EEA, UK and Switzerland), you agreed in the consent form; and
- you have not switched off Settings > Share usage and crash data.
When they are on, the app sends crash reports (device model, Android version, app version and the crash's stack trace) and a small set of anonymous events, such as opening the purchase screen, finishing a puzzle (with its difficulty) or completing a purchase. Firebase also records standard measurement data such as first open, sessions, approximate region from the IP address, and a random app-instance identifier that is not linked to your name, account or advertising ID. We turn off use of the advertising ID and ad personalization for these tools, and we do not send puzzle contents, photos, names or contact details.
You can turn this off at any time in Settings, which also asks Firebase to clear the data held on your device. Data is processed by Google under Firebase's privacy terms and retained for a limited period set by Google (Analytics event data is kept for 2 months by default).
Third-party services
The app uses the following Google services, which may process data as described in Google's Privacy Policy:
- Google AdMob and the User Messaging Platform (ads and consent)
- Google Play Billing (the optional purchase) and the Play Age Signals API (age range, where Google shares it)
- Google ML Kit (text recognition and document scanner)
- Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics (usage measurement and crash reports, as described above)
- Firebase Cloud Messaging (notifications you opt in to, as described above)
- Google Play services
Children
The app is a general-audience puzzle game and is not directed to children. It is intended for people aged 16 and over. The app has no age question. Where Google Play shares an age range for the account (for example where local age-assurance laws apply, or the account is managed by a parent), the app reads it through Google's Play Age Signals API. If it shows you are under 16, analytics and crash reporting stay off and ads are requested as child-directed, which means they are not personalized and are limited to a family-friendly content rating. The age range is used on your device only and is not sent to us or stored beyond a yes/no flag. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or under the higher age that applies in your country). If you believe a child has provided information through the app, contact us and we will help.
Deleting your data
We hold no data about you on our side. To remove what the app stores on your device, clear its storage in Android Settings > Apps > Sudoku Mania > Storage or uninstall the app. To limit what advertisers hold, reset your advertising ID in Android settings.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this address with a new date.
